ORCHARD Golf and Country Club will try and defend its title in the Philippine Airlines (PAL) Interclub golf team tournament, when the 68th edition hits Cebu City next month.

Orchard romped to an 18-point win over Alabang last year in Bacolod City. But it may find its hands full this year without key player John Kier Abdon, who turned professional.

Presenting as a big threat to Orchard’s back-to-back bid is Cebu Country Club (CCC), which is expected to do well in its home course.

Aside from CCC, the regular tournament will also be played at the Club Filipino de Cebu on Feb. 25-28.

The top three teams in the Founders division (Negros Occidental, Manila Southwoods and Wack Wack), Sportswriters (Eagle Ridge, Lumbia and Club Filipino) and Friendship (Fil-Am Hawaii, Victorias Golf and South Cotabato) are also returning this year.

Meanwhile, a three-way title fight looms in the seniors’ event with Luisita defending its crown against rival Canlubang and darkhorse Orchard.

The seniors’ contest will be played at Club Filipino de Cebu and Mactan Island Golf and Country Club on Feb. 19-22. (PR)
